NOTES ON RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS
WRITE CHINESE runs best as a stand-alone DOS application. If launched from
Windows, the opening music may sound unpleasantly erratic. This will be true
even if the program is provided "exclusive" use of system resources.
To toggle off the opening music, the program may launched via the CHINESE.PIF
file provided as part of this program package. The PIF file provides
CHINESE.EXE with 450K memory, full-screen operation, exclusive use of system
resources, and shuts off the opening music via a command-line parameter. The
CHINESE.ICO file displays the character zhong-1, meaning "middle" as in the
"Middle Kingdom" (China).
The CHINESE.PIF file assumes that the program is installed in the C:\CHINESE
subdirectory. If installed on some other drive or in a different subdirectory,
you should use the PIF Editor to modify the file appropriately.
If you prefer launching WRITE CHINESE from a full-screen DOS prompt, type
"CHINESE N" to switch off the opening music.
